Celebrating recent inspection report

Staff and pupils at Ashdown House are celebrating after inspectors at the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) gave the school a very positive report, following a recent visit.

The inspectors found that the quality of personal development of the pupils at Ashdown House is “excellent”, highlighting that pupils are “confident, independent and resilient with well-developed social skills”. They are “very accepting of others from different backgrounds and cultures” and “make an excellent contribution to the school community”. They also recognised the “very strong moral framework” of pupils and that they “know how to behave well”.

According to the report, “pupils show themselves to feel happy, safe and secure.” They “respond eagerly to the many good opportunities they have to make a contribution to the school and wider community”. It also notes that “the expectation and challenge offered by staff for pupils’ personal development makes a significant contribution to their all-round achievements.”

As well as finding that the school meets all the required regulatory standards, the independent report also rates the quality of pupils’ academic and other achievements as “Good”.

The inspection found that “pupils develop good knowledge, skills and understanding across the curriculum, with excellent creative and aesthetic development”. It also highlighted that “pupils develop many talents beyond the classroom, thanks to the wide range of opportunities available to them”.

Commenting on the report, Headmaster, Mike Davies said: “It’s wonderful that the hard work of the whole school community – pupils, staff, governors and parents – has been recognised by this important, independent report. It’s a real tribute to all those who work tirelessly to make Ashdown such a special place to learn, now and in the future.”
