Music

Cothill has a flourishing music department. All those who learn instruments have supervised practice periods to ensure progress is made. There are wind bands, jazz bands and orchestras so that instrumentalists can gain ensemble experience and junior and senior choirs reach high standards of performance.

The choirs sing anthems in church every Sunday and the 'Senior' choir tours on a regular basis in France. In 2007 a memorable performance was given by the Senior Choir at St Luke's Church in Chelsea, from which a recording of one of the more memorable pieces, namely "Zadok The Priest", can be heard here.

All boys have some exposure to music through timetabled class lessons when they are introduced to music history and learn about different musical styles and genres.

There is also a strong following of rock music amongst the boys in the school, and the twice yearly School Rock Concerts are popular events in the school calendar!

The best way to appreciate the strength in depth of music at Cothill must be via our Photo/Video Archive page, on which video and audio footage from recent concerts (both instrumental, choral and rock) can be seen and heard.

Art

In addition to timetabled art lessons, boys spend long periods in the art room during their spare time, drawing, painting and making models with the help of a talented and patient art teacher.

Ceramics

Ceramics and pottery are other popular pastimes. There is a dedicated studio and staff. Timetabled lessons also take place.

Woodwork

Many boys enjoy woodwork and with the help of four lathes and an excellent workshop they have a chance to indulge their enthusiasm.

Design

Practical skills are also learnt in the design studios, where boys balance their academic endeavours by making electronic, plastic and wrought iron gadgets and household wares.
