In 2012, Cothill is trying to raise at least £15,000 in aid of the RAF Wings Appeal. All boys will undertake a sponsored 10 mile walk at the start of the summer term, as part of the challenge. In return, they will be treated on Sports Day to a sensational aerobatic display above the school by 'The Blades', a civilian aerobatic display team made up of former Red Arrows pilots. The video above shows them in action.
As a bonus, The Blades are offering 4 Cothill fundraisers the chance to fly with them (as passengers) from their base at RAF Sywell. Any Cothill boy*, parent or staff member who supports the charity will earn 'lucky tickets' for the 'Fly with The Blades' draw to be held on Sports Day (7th July). The boy who is the most successful fundraiser will automatically earn his place in the cockpit!
How to sponsor the boys or make a donation
Please complete our simple online pledge & sponsorship form. This is NOT a payment form, it simply provides confirmation of what you intend to donate or sponsor. Payments should be made once the walk has been completed, but you are welcome to make a private donation at any time.
Summary of Sponsorship & Fundraising Champions
Click here to view a summary of sponsorship and good luck messages. We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of pledges made so far, but to avoid would-be sponsors from feeling under pressure we have decided not to reveal the amounts of specific pledges made. If you would prefer for your name not to appear in the list of sponsors, please let AJRC know. Rest assured that details have been recorded and email reminders for payment will be sent out once the walk has been completed.
For the same reason, it is no longer possible to see how the boys compare against each other in their fundraising efforts. However, suffice it to say that the boy who is the most successful fundraiser will win his Flight with The Blades, and the winner will be announced on Sports Day. Please email ajrc@cothill.net if you have any questions.
How to pay for sponsorship, or make a donation
There are 4 ways to pay for sponsorship, or simply to make a donation of your own.
- On Cothill's JustGiving page. Please ensure your message includes the name of the boy, so we can match payments to sponsorship pledges. The total raised on the JustGiving page shows only the money paid in so far, whilst the total shown at the top of this page is a measure of what the boys will raise if they all successfully complete the walk and their sponsors pay up!
- By cheque. Please make payable to 'RAF Wings Appeal' and send to Cothill House, Abingdon, Oxon, OX13 6JL, marked for the attention of AJRC. Please remember to complete and enclose a Gift Aid Form so that an extra 25% can be claimed by the charity.
- eBay charity auctions. Do you have something of value at home that we could sell on eBay for the RAF Wings Appeal? This has raised £650 so far! Click here for more info.
- By text (100% of what you donate goes to the charity, with Gift Aid on top). The amount is simply deducted from your phone bill. The only problem with this option is that we have no idea who the payments are from, so cannot match them to sponsorship pledges made above. If you are using this method to pay, please email us to let us know who it's for.
* Donations of £10 or more will earn you tickets for the 'Fly with The Blades' raffle draw*
The 'Fly with The Blades' Raffle Draw
For every £10 that each boy raises for charity, he will earn himself a 'lucky ticket' (in his name) for the draw. If a boy raises £50, that will earn him 5 tickets, and so on.
Any parent, relative or friend who sponsors a boy £10 or more will also earn themselves tickets for the draw. In other words, the oppoturnity to 'Fly with The Blades' is open to everyone, not just the boys. If a parent sponsors his son £20, that will amount to 4 lucky tickets for the family!
