One afternoon a week, the boys choose from a variety of clubs instead of playing sports, giving them the opportunity to experience and enjoy a wide range of extra-curricular activities from campcraft and orienteering to cookery, flight club and sailing.
On Sunday afternoons, an outing is arranged and boys may sign up during the preceding week if they wish to go. Many different places are visited: from mines and caves to farms, wildlife parks and factories.
There are also regular academic excursions including visits to the Jurassic Coast, HMS Victory and to the theatre, concerts and museums. In recognition of academic achievement and good citizenship, the boys win the right to go on a ‘V Badge’ trips, which include Laser Quest, ice-skating and rock climbing. There are also visits to Berlin each term, as well as a trip to Bucharest for scholars in 2011, and a four-day trip for the leavers after Common Entrance. Videos of previous years' leavers trips can be seen here
In addition to these regular outings there are frequent special events either at the school itself or on excursion. Whether it be a journey to the Albert Hall to watch some tennis, a Geography field-trip or a visit from a Royal Navy helicopter, there is always something exciting happening.
