Q: Why has Cothill chosen to support the RAF Wings appeal?
RAF personnel and their families dedicate their lives to their country. The mission of the RAF Wings Appeal is simple; to ensure that that their sacrifice does not end in suffering, poverty or loneliness. Whether it’s an injured airman fighting to get back onto his feet, a young daughter missing her parent away on overseas operations or a WWII veteran needing a shoulder to lean on, the RAF Wings Appeal will endeavour to help.
Through Cothill's support of this charity, the boys will...
- learn to appreciate the importance of charity fundraising in general
- learn how to help others by means of a sponsored activity (in this case, the 10 mile walk)
- learn more about the RAF, its aircraft, personnel, history and operations
- be able to enjoy displays by The Blades, and (perhaps) The Falcons parachute regiment, as well as flypasts by the Red Arrows, Spitfires & Lancaster bombers (if we do really well!)
Q: How do I sponsor the boys for the 10 mile walk?
- Using our online pledge and sponsorship form
Q: How do I make a donation?
- Visit our JustGiving page to make the payment. If you want to be included in the Fly with The Blades Draw, you can either send an email request to ajrc@cothill.net or complete the online pledge form
Q: How do I pay?
- Online at Cothill's JustGiving page and please ensure you include the name of the boy that you are sponsoring in your message (if applicable)
- By cheque made payable to 'The RAF Wings Appeal' and sent to AJRC at Cothill
Q: When am I supposed to pay?
It is best to pay for sponsorship once the walk has been completed and we will send an email to request this at that time, using the email address that you register when your complete the online pledge form. If you are making a donation (instead of sponsoring a boy) you can pay at any time using the methods suggested above.
Q: Why is the total on the JustGiving page less than the amount shown on the Cothill website?
The amount on the JustGiving page shows only what has actually paid in so far. The total on the Cothill website shows what the boys stand to raise if they successfully complete the sponsored walk and all of their sponsors pay up! We don't anticipate any of the boys failing to meet the challenge, even if more than one attempt is needed. By the end of the campaign, the amounts on the JustGiving page and Cothill website will hopefully match up!
Q: How else can I contribute (apart from sponsorship of the boys)?
- By making your own personal donation
- By offering things at home to be sold on eBay for the same RAF Wings Appeal
- By taking on a sponsored challenge yourself!
- By offering prizes/items for a 'Silent Auction' on this website in the summer term. Parents & friends would be able to send in bids (safely by email) for any items that they might like to buy. At the end of the auction all bids would be compared and the highest bidder would win. If you have anything you'd be happy for us to sell in a Silent Auction item, please let us know.
All of the above will entitle you to tickets for the Fly with the Blades draw - the more funds you raise, the more tickets you'll be given!
Q: How do I know how many 'Fly with The Blades' raffle tickets are held in my name?
You win one ticket for every £10 you raise. No tickets are actually sent out, but all are stored on the computer and will be included in the final draw on Sports Day.
Q: If I'm one of the winners in the Fly With The Blades draw, do I have to fly?!
No you can hand the ticket to anyone you like - we have to accept that flying in a stunt plane is not everybody's cup of tea!
Q: Are the boys really allowed to fly with the Blades?
Yes, as long as they have reached their 12th birthday, and obviously parental consent will be required too. If one of the winners is not yet 12 years of age, The Blades have kindly agreed to honour their commitment until the boy(s) concerned are old enough to fly.
Q: Is there any limit to how much I can sponsor a boy?
No! Just remember that you only get a lucky ticket when you contribute at least £10. In return, remember that 1 of the 4 winners in the 'Fly with The Blades' competition will be the boy who raises the most money for the charity.
