The aims of the science department are simple: to inspire the boys in all three subjects. This is primarily achieved through practical work. Finding out about how things work, chemicals react and the natural world evolves is central to both understanding and enjoyment of the subjects.
Scientific learning in school extends and enhances this natural curiosity by providing children with the opportunity to apply and further develop the skills they have already mastered. When pupils learn science, they are obtaining a set of skills and a body of knowledge that will, undoubtedly, be required for the essential routines of life, for work, for pleasure and for creativity in their future. It is not taught simply to prepare pupils for a qualification that will be required for their progression.
The early years follow the National Curriculum and as Common Entrance approaches, the syllabus changes to reflect the needs of that exam.
